Case Study: Hodder & Stoughton

Hachette

TangentOne worked with Hodder & Stoughton to give them a new home on the web. The new site not only had to contain information about all of their authors and titles, but needed to communicate the publishers' passion for their lists. To achieve this, we used a powerful CMS and gave Hodder the chance to select different 'skins' for their genres and key authors, showing clearly the diversity of the firm's publishing without overshadowing the Hodder & Stoughton brand. Literary imprint Sceptre had its own subsite developed with a shared database of content and a shared CMS.

TangentOne created an integral blog; allowed authors to update their own pages directly via Twitter; integrated e-commerce functionality; allowed every title to be tagged by staff to improve the user's browsing experience; and created an 'Inspire Me' gift selector that works by allowing users to combine popular tags and see the results. The end result: a content rich experience for users interested in everything that Hodder & Stoughton have to offer, and a great insight in to their publishing culture.
